So Dreams and creativity…
Did you know that many of the world's greatest ideas have come from dreams?
That's right! Our dreams can be a powerful source of creativity. Let's see how dreams have inspired artists, writers, and inventors throughout history.
Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"
One of the most famous examples is Mary Shelley, the author of "Frankenstein." She came up with the idea for her novel from a dream.
In her dream, she saw a scientist who created a monster, bringing it to life with a powerful experiment. She knew she had a fantastic story to tell when she woke up. And the rest, as they say, is history!
Dreams Spark Ideas
But Mary Shelley isn't the only one. Many others have found inspiration from dreams.
For example, Paul McCartney dreamed the melody for the hit song "Yesterday." When he woke up, he quickly wrote it down before he forgot it. The song became one of The Beatles' most famous tracks. How cool is that!?
Dream-Inspired Inventions
Even inventors have benefited from their dreams!
Elias Howe, who invented the sewing machine, struggled with the design for a long time. One night, he dreamed of being attacked by cannibals who were carrying spears with holes near the tips.
When he woke up, he realized that placing a hole near the needle tip could make his sewing machine work. His dream helped him solve a problem that had been bothering him for months!
Why Do Dreams Boost Creativity?
So, why do dreams spark such creative ideas?
When we dream, our brains can make connections between different thoughts and ideas that we might not consider when we're awake. Our minds are free to explore and imagine without the constraints of logic and reality. This free-flowing state can lead to surprising and innovative solutions.
Fun fact: Scientists say that men are more likely to dream about aggressive things whereas women mostly dream about conversations and rejection of emotions.
How to Capture Your Dream Ideas
If you want to use your dreams to boost your creativity, here are a few tips:
Keep a Dream Journal: Place a notebook and pen by your bed. As soon as you wake up, jot down any dreams you remember. Over time, you might notice patterns or themes that inspire new ideas. (See how many times you have seen the same dream! I sure have had the same dream so many times. )
Relax Before Bed: Stress can make it harder to remember dreams. Try to relax with a bedtime routine, like reading or taking a warm bath, to help you sleep better and dream more vividly. (If your favorite time of the day is bedtime, then no problem *wink*)
Reflect on Your Dreams: Take some time to think about your dreams during the day. You might find that they spark creative ideas or solutions to your problems. (If you can remember the dream that is. You can remember 80% - 90% of your dreams though)
Final Thoughts
Our dreams are more than just random images and stories. They can be a treasure stock of creativity, waiting to be unlocked.
By paying attention to your dreams, you might discover new ideas, solve problems, or even create something amazing.
So, the next time you wake up with a vivid dream, don't dismiss it—embrace it! You never know what incredible inspiration it might hold.

Hey Izel, this is such an awesome post! I have a sister who always writes down her dreams, but I never really thought to write my down. I will try to now because we forget our dreams so easily! I really enjoyed the Frankenstein piece you added in here. It really shows that creativity can come from anywhere, including our dreams :)
Now you inspired me to write a post of my vivid dreams! 🙏😊
