Hey there, my amazing readers! 👋 As always, looking lovely today! Did you have your coffee? Had enough rest? Hope you did! Now guys, sit back and relax before reading this.
Take a deep breath. In and Out.
Relaxed? Okay then, let’s get to business!
Today we are going to talk about self-kindness! I know, all my readers are amazing, kind people!
You helped homeless people? You saved an animal? You took care of your family?
Of course, you did! But, when was the last time you were kind to yourself? The last time you gave yourself some time to relax? Complimented yourself? Gave yourself a nice little treat for your hard work?
I used to be my own worst critic. Never gave myself a break. Never complimented myself. Nothing I did was ever enough.
The society didn’t help either. Some people in my country are very traditional with some messed up beliefs.
So when I lost my dad, as I said last week, they stopped associating with me and my mom. Apparently, it was ‘bad luck’ to tell important things to a widow and her child. So yeah, that really hurt me to the point where I used to consider myself unlucky.
Not all people are like that though. It’s a nice country. But you know, there’s bad anywhere.
This is why I’m writing this newsletter today. I’m not going to gloat and say I’ve been kind to myself lately. I want to do this for myself as well. I want to be kind to myself.
So, did some research. Found some advice.
From today onwards, we’re going to love ourselves! Ready to dive in?
Let's get cozy and chat.
Why You Should Be Your Own Best Buddy
Imagine this: your best friend just tripped over their own feet, spilled coffee on their favorite shirt, and lost their keys (all in one morning).
(After laughing your ass off,) Would you call them a hopeless failure? Of course not!
You'd probably give them a hug, a shoulder to cry on, and maybe even share a joke to lighten the mood. So why not treat yourself the same way?
Self-kindness is basically being your own best buddy.
It means giving yourself a break, offering words of encouragement, and understanding that you're human, even with all the glorious flaws.
How to be kind to yourself
Forgive Yourself for Mistakes
We all mess up. Some of us do it with flair!
Remember that time you wore your shirt inside out for an entire day? Classic.
Made a mistake while writing? Laugh it off, guys.
Mistakes are part of the human experience. They’re not a reflection of your worth.
They’re just funny little bumps in life. So, next time you drop your phone in the toilet or call someone by the wrong name (again), take a deep breath and say, “Oops, there I go being human again!” (actually, don’t SAY that! Just think okay? It’ll be cringy if you say it out loud)
Patience, Grasshopper!
Patience isn't just a virtue; it's your new best friend.
Says who? Me.
When you're learning something new or trying to change a habit, it takes time.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a perfectly organized closet. (Mine’s never organized by the way)
Be patient with yourself. If you mess up (like eating a whole pizza while on a diet), remember that change takes time.
And hey, sometimes pizza happens ( I mean who can resist pizza??). Enjoy it, learn from it, and move on.
Talk to Yourself Like You Would to a Cat
Ever scolded a cat?
Hopefully not, because you just can’t. That’s it. End of the story.
If you have by anyyy chance…..
I mean by any any chance……
P.S. If you don’t want to get murdered in your sleep, DO NOT scold your cat! They can hold a grudge for 16 HOURS!
Next time you catch yourself being harsh, imagine saying those words to a cute little cat.
Instead of “I can’t believe I messed up that project!” try “Well, that didn’t go as planned, but it’s okay, I’ll get it next time!”
See? Much nicer, right? (I mean everyone wants to be cats and dogs these days, so why not treat yourself like one?)
Tips to Nail Self-Kindness Like a Pro
Daily Affirmations (That Don't Make You Cringe)
Start your day with a pep talk. Look in the mirror and say something positive. It doesn’t have to be over-the-top.
Try “I’m doing my best, and that’s enough” or “I can and I’m strong, even if I don’t feel like it right now.”
The trick is to find words that resonate with you and make you smile.
Find your line!
Celebrate Small Wins (Even the Teeny Tiny Ones)
Did you finally sort out that sock drawer? Managed to drink enough water today? Made dinner? Celebrate it! No victory is too small.
Throw yourself a mini dance party, or treat yourself to a favorite snack. Recognizing your achievements, no matter how small, builds confidence and reinforces positive behavior.
If you are a parent, treat yourself like how you treat your kids when they achieve small things! (Including cat, dog, or any animal parents!)
Set Boundaries (Because You’re Worth It)
Being kind to yourself also means protecting your time and energy. Learn to say no to things that drain you.
Whether it’s skipping an unnecessary meeting or declining a social event that doesn’t excite you, setting boundaries is essential for self-care.
I know most of us do this. I do! There are times when we have to adjust according to certain situations. Like for example, I’m an introvert. But there are times that I have to be accommodating to social work even if it makes me uncomfortable.
But the point here is knowing your self-worth. Don’t let others take advantage of you! Set boundaries. This is something that I’m working on myself.
Mindful Moments
Mindfulness doesn’t mean you have to meditate for hours. It’s about being present in the moment.
Try simple practices like paying attention to your breathing for a few minutes or savoring your morning coffee without distractions. These little moments of mindfulness can help you stay grounded and reduce stress.
Wrapping It Up
So there you have it—a friendly guide to being kinder to yourself, mistakes and all. Remember, practicing self-kindness isn’t about perfection.
It’s about progress. It’s about treating yourself with the same love and understanding you’d offer a friend (or your pet). And hey, if you ever need a reminder, just think of that inside-out shirt day. We’ve all been there.
Now, go ahead and give yourself a break. Be your own best buddy. We got this!
